Major US indices are advancing ahead of 4 July holiday tomorrow and early close today at 1 PM ET.
The NASDAQ index is a leading the way today with a gain of 200 points or 0.98% at 20594.
The S&P index is up 52 points or 0.83% at 6279.33. The Dow industrial average is up 0.84% or 375 points at 44859. The small-cap Russell 2000 is also higher with a gain of 18.92 points or 0.85%.
With a few hours left in trading for the day and the week, the major indices are on pace for gains this week. Both the S&P and NASDAQ indices are trading at new record levels. The Russell 2000 of small-cap stocks was the biggest gainer for the week (over 3.3%). The Dow industrial average also rose nicely and was the strongest of the top three indices with a gain of 2.37% currently.
The NASDAQ index which has led the gains off the lows from April lows saw some rotation out of the mega tech stocks but still is up 1.58% for the week. A summary of the weekly gains shows:
